Accelerating the Hydrogen Economy in the Hunter Valley
The Project
About H2N
The H2N is a large-scale hydrogen production, transportation and export project, developed in collaboration with key hydrogen users and exporters. Creating Australia’s first Hydrogen Valley, its aim is to help unlock the renewable energy resources of the Central West, New England and Hunter Valley/Central Coast Renewable Energy Zones in New South Wales, to produce green hydrogen and associated green feedstock. The green hydrogen will initially be used for mining, mobility and other industrial uses in the Upper Hunter. The next stage is to transport hydrogen via a dedicated hydrogen pipeline through the Hunter Valley to users for domestic supply and export green hydrogen and other hydrogen derivative products that are inincreasing demand.
In developing the project, Energy Estate is looking to provide new opportunities and jobs into the Hunter, and to enable the Hunter Valley to continue to be a trusted domestic and global energy supplier into the future. H2N builds upon Energy Estate’s existing projects in the region including the Walcha Energy Project which is proposed to connect to the Hunter through WalchaLink and its support for Idemtisu’s Muswellbrook hub which will repurpose the existing coal mine to a clean industrial hub incorporating pumped hydro, solar and battery storage, green hydrogen production and an industrial precinct.
The project is being co- developed by Energy Estate and global developer Eurus Energy (itself owned by Japanese powerhouses Tokyo Electric Power and Toyota Tsusho). It is one of several projects in Energy Estate’s HydrogenGrowth platform that focusses on developing green hydrogen opportunities throughout Australia and internationally.
